The bird in question is a gamebird with a large body, small head, and black feathers peppered with rows of bluish-white spots. Its appearance is further accentuated by a plumed “toupee” above its face which looks quite silly. The bird’s facial features include a noticeable ivory-colored bill and a blood-red eye. It has red skin on the face and blue skin on the neck. This bird can be found in forests and thickets where it feeds on berries, seeds, and other plant matter while foraging on the ground. While there are similar species like the Helmeted Guineafowl, this bird can be distinguished by its feathered crest as opposed to the casque seen on the former. Its alarm call consists of a series of rattling, agitated notes that speed up and slow down with a tinnier quality compared to the Helmeted Guineafowl.
